Stage one
The first lesson
Lesson one starts at the pick-up address, not on the road. The seat, the mirrors and the pedals are set up from scratch, then the hands go to nine and three before the handbrake comes off. Everything after this lesson builds on that one habit.

Stage two
Logbook hours
Queensland’s requirement is 100 supervised hours, including 10 at night, before a learner under 25 can sit the practical test. Every hour with an accredited instructor can count as up to 3 logbook hours, for the first 10 lessons, which is the fastest legitimate way to bring the total down. The logbook is signed and dated at the end of every lesson, not chased up later.

Stage three
Reading the road
Roundabouts and give-way intersections are the single most common reason a learner stalls on progress, usually because they were taught a sequence rather than a read. This stage is about speed, gap, mirror, indicate, worked on real Logan roundabouts until it happens without being talked through.

Stage four
Test day
The last lesson before a booked test is driven on the actual route out of Beenleigh or Loganholme, at the same time of day where possible. It finishes with an honest read on readiness rather than a pep talk, because a learner deserves to know before the fee is paid, not after.

A learner Grant had taken over partway through his lessons failed on a give-way at a roundabout he had driven past a dozen times, not because he didn't know the rule, but because his hands were never set in a position to react to it in time.
